The route

I will be starting my ride in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, after spending a day cruising Manhattan and another on the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. I’ll head south through Philadelphia and Baltimore west of the Chesapeke Bay on my way to Washington, D.C.  There I’ll take the C&O Canal Towpath to Cumberland, MD, where I’ll join the Great Allegheny Passage on up to Pittsburgh. Then it’s west to Cleveland, across my home state of Ohio to Lake Michigan’s southern shores in Indiana on the way to Chicago. I’m going to cruise through northern Illinois and cut through Iowa City and Davenport in Iowa on the way to Omaha, NE. I’ll dip down into Kansas for a stop in Goodland before hitting the Rockies in Boulder, CO, just in time for Dead & Company’s two night stand at Folsom Field. At that point I’ll join ACA’s TransAmerica Trail through Jackson Hole and Yellowstone north to Missoula, MT, before heading west on ACA’s Lewis and Clark Trail through Walla Walla, WA and Portland, OR before hitting the Pacific in Astoria.

I’ve written a blog post about how I came up with this route, so if you want to see how I pieced these places together and why, click on through to the other side.

Part of the fun of the whole thing is not really knowing what, or where, each day will bring me. As such, I’m going to try to be open to deviating from my route if the situation presents itself. But there are things I want to see and experience in each of the places mentioned above and I doubt I’ll stray too much from what I’ve already planned. Once I hit the Pacific? Who knows…
